DETROIT SOULMAN - THE BEST OF STEVE MANCHA
(CONNOISSEUR COLLECTION VSOP CD 287)
Connoisseur Collection label is giving great importance to quality soul music in its catalogue. The best of Steve Mancha proves this policy better than many words. Liner notes written by David Cole (shall I tell you something about David? Well for those who've just returned from Mars is the editor of "In the Basement" magazine), this cd contains, for the first time ever, all his Groovesville and Wheelsville recordings plus five unissued tracks. In a word, gems for the collectors! Steve never made it at Motown but he succeded in creating his own musical style from early R&B influenced songs to more soulful crossover floaters. I am personally in love with the song Easy Living, but there are several tunes worth listening and dancing to, a part from those taken from the well known Rare Stamps album on Stax, I will suggest you Think Before You Walk Away a great mid-tempo crossover and the superb ballad I Don't Want To Lose You. So If you happen to find this cd in your music store, buy it without thinking about it. Otherwise you can always ask for it at Connoisseur Collection web site.
