VARIOUS - KING NEW BREED R&B (KENT DANCE)

Another winner for all R&B lovers, this new Kent CD reveals what's the difference between the true black sound and primitive rock'n'roll (as soul fans our roots should be in the 60s or I missed something?). The King imprint is one of the strongest offers for collectors, covering blues, rhythm & blues, deep soul & more uptown productions (check out the stunning King Northern Soul series). The collection starts with the blue eyed sound of Mike Pedicin, an Italian American trying to interpretate the sound of the ghetto. Bobby King's "Thanks Mr. Postman" is an answer song to the Marvelettes classic (check out the bluesy guitar solo) while Tiny Topsy's "Just A Little Bit" is very catchy and fits well with current tastes for early sounds. My favourite tracks are Albert King "Had You Told It Like It Was", a poppish midtempo that could work well on the dancefloor, the unissued version of Rosemary's "Not Much (Do You Baby)", the jazzy Freddy King's "Now I've Got A Woman", one for your local mod club, and James Duncan's "Three Little Pigs", a rarity in the same vein of Donnie Elbert's "A Little Piece Of Leather". Recommendation for a maximum pleasure: turn up the volume, take your shoes off and shake wildly!
