VARIOUS - SHRINE THE RAREST SOUL LABEL VOL. 2 (CDKEND 190)

After listening to volume one of this series I thought that not all Shrine records are as good as rare but this second part has pushed me to change idea. We wait for this cd for a very long time because of some technical problems with the tapes (three of the tracks weren't good enough and it took Kent two years to sort it out). Of course it was worth the wait and now the story of the most revered and talked about rare soul label ever is complete. The final result is absoultely brilliant, a must for real 60's soul lovers (who can afford to own all these rarities in the original form?). Very Sophisticated vocal harmonies are delivered by The Prophets with "If I Had (One Gold Piece)", a classy midtempo, while Bobby Reed two previously unissued gems "Caldonia Brown" and Baby Don't Leave Me" are set at the right tempo and style to shake any serious dancefloor. The DC Blossoms "Hey Boy" is a female stomper of the first order, with strong pushing vocals by the back singers. Ray Pollard is one of the true Northern Soul hero ("It's A Sad Thing" send me a thrill through the spine every time I listen to it!) and "This Time" is considered by many to be the jewel in Shrine's crown, a soul masterpiece. Other favourites are "Shame" by the Enjoyables and "No Other Way" by the Cautions but it's all the cd that sounds sooo good. Buy it now!
